- a. சொட்ட வாளை, இது ஒரு ஆற்று மீன். இதன் முதுகு கருப்பாயும், மற்றப்பாகங்கள் வெள்ளியைப் போல் வெண்மையாயும் பளபளப்பாயும், தலையின் பக்கம் சிறிது மஞ்சளாயும், உடல் முழுவதும் சாம்பல் நிறமான புள்ளிகள் வாய்ந்ததாயு மிருக்கும். இதன் கண்கள் மஞ்சள் நிறம் வாய்ந்திருக்கும்.நீளம் சுமார் இரண்டி இருக்கும்.
b. Silvery – white ricer – fish, Barber’s vaulay. Notapterus kapirat. It is silvery in general and dark on the back and has some gloss of yellow about the head, and numerous fine greyish spots everywhere. Its eyes are golden and it grows to 2 ft. or more in length.
a. அம்பட்டன்கத்தி ஓர் வகைக் கடல் மீன், இது நீளமாயும், கத்தியின் பிடியைப் போற் குறுகலாயும் இருப்பதைப் பற்றியே இதற்கு இப்பெயர் வாய்ந்தது. இதன் மேல் பெரும் புள்ளிகள் 2-3 வரிசைகளாக்க காணப்படும். இது 8½ அங்குல நீளம் இருக்கும். முதுகின் பக்கம் நீல நிறமாயும், பக்கமும், வயிறும், வெள்ளியைப் போல் பளபளப்பாயும் காணப்படும்.
b. A kind of sea fish (Barber and knife) - Razor fish – Mene maculate e.f. Notopterus (Barber Vaulay). It is so called from its being long and narrow like the handle of a razor. It has 2 or 3 rows of large spots along the superior half of the body. It is 8 ½ inches in length. It is a sea-fish, blue on the black and silvery white on the sides and on the abdomen.
