a. விசேஷ குணம் வாய்ந்த எட்டு வித அபூர்வமான மரங்கள். இவைகளை எளிதிற் காணுவதரிது.

b. Eight kinds of trees selected in the Tamil Medical science, as the most superior among trees on account of their extraordinary virtues. It is said that they are visible only to the Spiritualists. They are: -
   i. உரோம விருட்சம், a tree, so called probably, from its pubescence resembling wool, like that of a willow tree.
   ii. எருமைக் கனைச்சான், a milky tree with a peculiar characteristic, A leaf is said to drop whenever a buaffalo lows under it.
   iii. சுணங்கன் விருட்சம் அல்லது நாய்க்குட்டி மரம், a tree said to produce sound like the bark of a dog, when a person happens to pass under it.
   iv. திலகம் அல்லது மயிலை, a tree probably peacock’s foot – Vitex alata.
   v. இரச காந்த விருட்சம், a tree supposed to have in it the properties of mercury and magnet.
   vi. சாயா விருட்சம், a tree, which does not cast its shadow, probably from its transparent nature.
   vii. சோதி விருட்சம், a luminous milky tree in darkness, probably on account of its inherent phosphoric quality.
   viii. முண்டினி மரம், another variety; NOs. 1 and 5 are useful in Alchemy; 2. Keeps off hunger and sleep; 3 and 7 used in Magic; 4 and 8 are used for rejuvenation; 6 enables one to fly in the aerial regions.
