a. கஞ்சா, இதனை உபயோகிப்பவரை மயக்கச் செய்தலால் இப் பெயர். இதற்கு இன்னும் கோரக்கர் மூலி, சித்தருண்ணு மூலி, கற்பத்து ஞானி, யோகம் வளர்க்கும் மூலி, என்ற பல காரணப் பெயர்கள் உண்டு.

b. Gunjah – Cannabis sativa. It is so called because of the intoxication it produces in theose who are addicted to it. It is known by different names such as Cal hemp, Korakkan’s drug, Fimble, Gallow grass, Giddy plant; Indian hemp, Wishing plant Victory (Siddhi) plant and so on.
