a. அகோரமாய்ச் சுரங்காய்ந்து, விக்கல், தாகம், சோர்வு, இரைப்பு, உப்பிசம் முதலிய குணங்களையும் மற்றும் தலை நடுக்கம், மறதி, சன்னி முதலிய மூளையின் கோளாறுகளையும் உண்டாக்கும் ஓர் சுர நோய், இது மரணத்தை உண்டாக்கும்.

b. A fever characterised by high temperature, hiccough, thirst, languor, hard breathing swelling, etc coupled with the shaking of the head, forgetfulness, confusion of mind, delirium and other cerebral manifestations. It is sometimes extremely fatal – Typhus fever.
